Defining Quality Leadership
Anne Benedict: Defining Quality Leadership from Behance Magazine
“No team, creative or otherwise, can exist without focus or direction. However, success rarely occurs in dictator-esque environments. “Good leadership and management practices apply across all types of work, both creative and traditional, because the common denominator is people. People in every oeuvre have skills, motivations, aspirations, personalities; each person brings their own mix to the table. Work, by nature, is accomplished through groups of people working towards a common goal and leading and managing are fundamental to the effectiveness of reaching that goal.”
Seven Ways to Amp Your Attitude

How often do you walk into Starbucks, go to the coffee pot at home or work, grab some chocolate or a bag of chips, or buy your favorite caffeinated beverage looking for just a little more juice, something to energize you, or to amp up your day just a little bit (there’s even an energy drink named Amp!)?
Sure you may like the taste of those treats, and even gain some temporary energy, but they aren’t a complete answer to your energy and attitude challenges.
Here are seven specific things you can do at any time (including right now) to amp up your energy and attitude – with no caffeine crash or calories!

Tiger Woods – Better today than yesterday
Leading Questions: Tiger Woods – Better today than yesterday
“You don’t have to be a champion golfer or the CEO of a Fortune 100 company to have the kind of drive to be better every day like Tiger does. That has nothing to do with what your talent, and everything to do with your character. What Tiger has is a paradoxical belief in both the nobility and importance of being the best, and a humility to recognize that his greatest opponent is his own character.”
Take time to watch this (almost 28 minute long) video and to read the article on the Leading Questions blog. Both are well worth the time you’ll spend.
Do you have a “To Be” list?
“Management has a lot to do with answers. Leadership is a function of questions. And the first question for a leader always is: ‘Who do we intend to be?’ Not ‘What are we going to do?’ but ‘Who do we intend to be?’” —Max De Pree, Herman Miller
As leaders we spend a lot of time focusing on action, on getting results. To do this, most of us track our actions with a “to do” list of some sort. However, great leadership is more than just getting results, it requires us to act from a deep sense of who we are. To have a foundation integrity and character that inspires and motivates others to trust us and in turn take action. As leaders it’s important that we manage our action, with a “to do” list, as well as our being, with a “to be” list.
HBR: Are You Spending Your Time the Right Way?
Here’s a three-step plan for allocating your time wisely and strategically.
Though most managers understand intellectually that time is their scarcest resource, few make the effort to gain a strategic perspective on how they spend their hours each week. Still fewer make a regular practice of keeping track of how the priorities they say are most important jibe with the way they actually spend their time. “Those we label natural born leaders know how to leverage their time,” writes Warren Blank in The 108 Skills of Natural Born Leaders (Amacom, 2001). For those in whom this talent is not innate, here’s how to do it.
iPhone Central confirms the rumor: Free wireless on your iPhone at Starbucks
iPhone Central: Starbucks lets iPhone users surf, gratis
The rumors had been floating around that because of Starbucks’ switch to AT&T for their Wi-Fi provider (ditching former partner-in-crime T-Mobile), iPhone users would be able to surf the web without paying a single dime. But anecdotal reports are not enough to sate this blogger. I needed first hand proof.
Consistent with other reports, I tried this out on Saturday and it was down. Maybe AT&T will roll this out for real sometime soon…
How to avoid getting hooked
Official Google Blog: How to avoid getting hooked
Millions of people have gotten “urgent” emails asking them to take immediate action to prevent some impending disaster. “Our bank has a new security system. Update your information now or you won’t be able to access your account,” or “We couldn’t verify your information; click here to update your account.” Sometimes the email claims that something awful will happen to the sender (or a third party), as in “The sum of $30,000,000 is going to go to the Government unless you help me transfer it to your bank account.”
People who click on the links in these emails may see a web page that looks like a legitimate site they’ve visited before. Because the page looks familiar, these people enter their username, password, or other private information on the site. What they’ve actually done is given an unknown third party all the information needed to hijack their account, steal their money, or open up new lines of credit in their name. They just fell for a phishing attack.
This is an excellent write-up on this issue. If it doesn’t benefit you, it will benefit someone that you know. Click the link at the top to read the entire post.
Persistence: The key to the achievement of meaningful goals

“As leaders it’s importance to be persistent. Anything worth achieving in life requires constant effort. Just having a meaningful goal is not enough, to make a difference we need to continuously take action. We need to be persistent, as we strive to reach our goals, working daily towards the achievement of our goals. Persistence is necessary as meaningful goals don’t come easy.
There are days when we will feel life giving up, days when it seems that we are not making any progress, there will be days when we feel like giving up. It’s during days like these, that sheer determination and persistence is all that that’s left. It’s persistence that ensures we continue and don’t give up!”
